Citizenship And Civic Engagement
The Citizenship and Civic Engagement Program supports individuals throughout the process of becoming naturalized U.S. citizens. Through these programs, BSP participants throughout the state of California can exercise the full benefits of being new Americans. Additionally, students who have successfully passed the naturalization exam are given information to register to vote and become active civic participants.
Students learn United States history, civics and English to prepare and pass the naturalization exam. BSP strives to minimize the barriers to becoming a citizen by providing guidance with the application and interview process. BSP refers participants to a wide network of outside organizations and agencies that can provide additional resources and assistance in their journey to becoming citizens.
Program Graduates
BSP wants to congratulate all of our participants who recently became naturalized citizens! Laura A. is a day porter for ABM in Southern California. She has been attending citizenship classes consistently for a few years. Hardworking with a full-time job and duties as a single mom, Laura's commitment to her naturalization studies never wavered. Currently, she is taking ESL classes with BSP and hopes to vote in the upcoming elections.
Laura works for ABM and became a citizen in October 2018. Although she worked hard to balance her schedule as a mom, wife, and property service worker, she made time each week to attend BSP’s Citizenship and Civic Engagement classes. It was through BSP programs that she recognized the importance of being active within the community and perpetuated this mentality with her family.
